Crossleaf collects no data whatsoever, and never connects to the internet. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporter, no advertising identifier and no tracking of any kind. The app makes no network requests at all.
What the app stores, and where
Everything stays on your device:
- Your documents. PDFs you add from Files or iCloud Drive stay where they are; Crossleaf remembers their location so it can open them again. PDFs you open in Crossleaf from Mail or AirDrop are kept in the app's own storage on your device.
- A search index of your documents' text, so searching is fast. It lives in the app's storage and is removed when you remove a document or delete the app.
- Your workspace: document names you chose, bookmarks, search history, and settings.
- Apple Pencil markup is written into the PDF file itself, wherever that file lives.
If your PDFs are in iCloud Drive, Apple syncs those files as it does for any app; Crossleaf itself sends nothing anywhere.
Permissions
Crossleaf asks for no permissions. It reads only the files you choose to add.
